2012 BMW M5 Ring Taxi
Since 1986, the BMW Ring Taxi at the famous Nürburgring race track has thrilled more than 90,000 passengers. The car chosen to continue this tradition is the 2012 BMW M5 high-performance sedan. It is virtually identical to the standard model, besides unique M decals on the exterior and M Drivers package, which lifts the speed limit to 190 mph. (continued below)

The new BMW M5 Ring Taxi has been unveiled at the M Festival, which takes
place this year at the Nurburgring at the same time as the 24 Hour race - June
23-26.
The power for the 2012 BMW M5 Ring Taxi comes from a high-revving V8 unit with M TwinPower
Turbo technology. The 4.4-liter engine develops top output of 560 hp (412 kW) at
6,000 - 7,000 rpm, while its maximum torque of 502 lb-ft (680 Newton meters) is
on tap between 1,500 and 5,750 rpm. The rev limiter intervenes at 7,200 rpm. The
M5 is kitted out with a seven-speed double-clutch transmission.
The
instantaneous power delivery and sustained thrust familiar from M cars are the
key to acceleration of 0 - 60 mph in 4.2 seconds and top speed of 190 mph.
According to BMW officials, the F10 M5 Ring Taxi will start its usual rounds
at Green Hell in 2012.
The car currently used as Ring Taxi is BMW E92 M3
and costs 195 EUR ($280) per lap. The car takes up to three persons who can
split the cost, to 65 EUR ($91) per person. The price for the all-new M5 Ring
Taxi has yet to be announced.
