Honda cars were founded by a man of real vision. From a young age, Soichiro Honda (November 17, 1906 - August 5, 1991), was interested in the mechanics of cars.
From tuning them to racing them, he finally won a contract in 1937 to make piston rings for Toyota. After some initial failures, Honda began mass producing piston rings that were acceptable for Toyota Cars. During World War II, Honda, working within Toyota and other major corporations, mastered their version of the Honda Engines today.
Honda's first two Production Automobiles were in 1963 with the T360 mini pick-up truck, and the S500 Sports car. In 1986 Honda finally expanded to the United States Automobile market introducing the Acura brand. It was Honda's attempt to capture the luxury car market in America with their Japanese cars.
Today, Honda is know for their reliability, safety, and value. People who buy Hondas often say they do not worry about their purchase. They are not worried about "surprise" mechanical fixes. They know their vehicle has has higher ratings in the "crash tests" with other vehicles in it's class. They know their vehicle will retain it's value for many years. |
